The computer evolution is rapidly increasing day by day. But the security is on the same level. We people being a major part in this success, should protect our PC from virus, malware, worms & etc. In this article i have mentioned some basic tips to protect a computer.

Update your computer

Always try to update all your softwares often.

Use up-to-date antivirus software

Antivirus software must be updated regularly inorder to avoid spread of viruses. Use automatic updation to update it.

Use up-to-date antispyware software

Same as antivirus, even antispyware software should also be updated frequently inorder to avoid malware, spyware & etc.

Keep your browser up-to-date

The major part is to even update the browser. The browsers provide regular updates. To secure a PC browser, updation must be done.

Protect your computer using password

Always protect your PC using a prominent password. Make sure no one knows it. This is one of the best way to protect a PC from any illegal operation.

Disconnect your PC from the internet, when not in use

Now a days, it is possible for a user to be online all the time, but this comes with risk. The attackers or viruses scanning the network for available computers will target your computer. So disconnecting mean disabling a wireless connection, turning off your computer or modem, disconnecting cables. When you are connected, do make sure that you have a firewall enabled.

Do not open any files from strangers

E-mails & Instant messaging (IM) can spread viruses if the user is not careful. The user should never open a file attached to an e-mail or an IM unless you recognize the sender. If you are expecting the file from them, trust them.

Do lock your computer when you are away from it

Even if you are a step away from your computer for a few minutes, the time is enough for someone else to destroy or corrupt your information. Locking your computer prevents another person to access all your information.

Backup all your data

All the Operating System provides backup utility. Backup all your data frequently. This is another simple way to protect loss of data in a PC. Also one can backup & store their data in some external storage devices.

Use a limited account for a safer life

Create a limited account for the other users who access your computer. This prevents other users to gain privilege. So that everything is under the control of an administrator.
