I wonder what is the deal with creating such an app as ajax software when doing such a sing in java would create a much better result. What is the buzz about all this Ajax about? I would really like to know, this comment is in no way intended to be a flame.

You should also check out SSuite Office for a free word processor. It has almost all the features of Word, and looks and works the same. {except for the ribbons}. Their word processor is called WordGraph.

I use the Kingsoft Office 2007 Free Edition suite on my own work laptop mainly because the menu interface for this suite is similar to Microsoft Office 2003 and so I find it easier to use.

Narendran – thanks for including Peepel.com in your great list.

@Denby Hi – a few quick things – JAVA needs the run time to be installed (similar to Flash) – Javascript generally comes in the browser.

If you want to know more – email me at Steve@peepel.com and we can have a more indepth discussion about it.

You should instead look for an OCR program, there is one called JOCR which can take any text that is on the screen (even that which is in an image) and convert it to text which is placed in the clipboard, which in turn can then be pasted into a text document. The sharper and clearer the text is on the screen the better the results will be.
